The National Council Licensure Examination, or NCLEX, is a nationwide examination for nurses who intend to become licensed practitioners in the United States, Australia, and Canada. The NCLEX exams are developed and owned by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc., or NCSBN.
There are two types of NCLEX exams: the NCLEX-RN for prospective registered nurses and the NCLEX-PN for future practical nurses. The examinations are administered in person at various NCLEX International Test Centers worldwide. In addition, each nurse is required to pass their prospective examinations to earn their licensure and legally practice nursing in the United States.

The NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN examinations test the examinees’ basic understanding of nursing practices and critical thinking abilities. Using the information they learned in their respective registered nursing or vocational nursing school. The goal of the NCLEX is to ensure that the passers can provide safe patient care and make quality nursing judgments.
HOW TO APPLY FOR NCLEX US EXAM?
The NCSBN Inc. has more than 50 State Boards of Nursing, or SBON since each US state requires a different set of NCLEX requirements and qualifications. Moreover, each SBON has a different NCLEX registration process and examination fees. Therefore, one foreign applicant may qualify to take the NCLEX in one state while another candidate nurse may not, depending on their work experience, level of education, and many more.
A typical NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN US exam application process consist of four (4) phases.
Assessment of Prerequisites
The requirements for the NCLEX exam application vary depending on which US state the candidate chooses to apply for the examination. Thus, the first stage of the IPASS NCLEX exam application is the assessment of applicants. An IPASS agent does this pre-qualification process to verify if the applicant can take the NCLEX exam in their chosen US state.
Examining the Eligibility of the Candidate
The State Board of Nursing or SBON in your desired state will then examine the candidates and their documents to determine whether they are eligible for the NCLEX exam. It is based upon the SBON’s set criteria. When the SBON declares the candidate eligible, they will receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) notification through email.
NCLEX Examination Proper
After getting the ATT notification, the candidate can now choose their preferred NCLEX exam date, granted that it’s within the validity date of the ATT. Moreover, numerous printed materials and online review courses are available to study in preparation for the exam proper.
After clearing the NCLEX exam, some candidates can access their unofficial results two days after. However, they are only permitted to practice as a licensed or registered nurse once the official NCLEX exam results are released.
Licensing
Once the candidate passes the NCLEX, NYBON subsequently sends their wall certificate and license parchment to the candidate’s mailing address. The mailing will take up to 2 months, approximately. Also, the candidate’s license will be posted in the New York Board of Nursing and Nursys.

How do Compact States Work?
You can submit an application for a license through endorsement in a compact state if you reside in a noncompact state.
